The GWI worked with partners in the University of Victoria Geography Department in 2013 to create an online survey to gain public input about the Gorge Waterway, Portage Inlet and three other harbour areas in the capital region. This is part of a broader initiative to establish water quality objectives for the five harbour areas. Survey questions covered how people use the harbours, the features they most valued about the harbours, and what their visions were for the future. The survey was promoted at community events throughout the summer, garnering more than 730 responses. Following analysis, the GWI will help with further public consultation at public open houses, and the planning and actions that flow from that process.
