Bowker Creek Watershed
How can I help?
- Learn more about Bowker Creek by becoming involved with community events and stream restoration activities organized by the Friends of Bowker Creek (www.bowkercreek.org).
- If you are an elementary of high school student in the area, ask your teachers about opportunities to study the ecology of the creek or undertake restoration as part of your science activities.
- If you live nearby, take a walk along the creek in Browning Park, off McRae Ave., or on the BC Hydro Lands, off Haultain St., or check out the Spirit Gardens at Newton St. and Richmond Rd.
- Reduce or phase out the use of fertilizers and pesticides by using non-toxic alternatives and/or working with native plants that don’t require as much care; see natural gardening and landscaping for specific tips.
- Help to prevent habitat loss and degradation, for example by preserving native trees and other vegetation on your land.
- Learn about invasive species and what you can do to limit their spread.
- Learn how you can help improve fresh water quality and flows.
