Rain Garden

A large rain garden with underdrain allows roof water from small storms to be used as a resource instead of running out to the municipal storm drains.

The rain garden receives water from approximately 250 metres squared roof area, and replaces approximately 300 meters square of concrete with gardens and amended soils.

The rain garden was designed by Vic West students with the aid of Leadership Victoria program members. The goals were to create an outdoor classroom, replace a concrete area with a beautiful garden and manage some rainwater from the roof onsite.

Cost & Funding

$40,000 including volunteer labour and donations from Leadership Victoria, Victoria Foundation, The Nature Trust of BC and many other public and private contributors.
