Water Advisory Committee

The Capital Region Water Supply and Sooke Hills Protection Act stated in Section 8:

  1. The Regional District Board must, before December 31, 1997, appoint a Regional Water Supply, Protection and Conservation Advisory Committee to provide advice to the water supply commission on water supply, water quality, the stewardship of the lands held by the regional district for water supply purposes and water conservation measures.
  2. The Regional Water Supply, Protection and Conservation Advisory Committee must have representation from the Regional Water Supply Commission, the Water Distribution Commission and the Saanich Peninsula Water Commission, and each of the following must be invited to provide a representative:
    • The agricultural community;
    • Groups concerned with the protection of fish habitat;
    • First Nations;
    • Environmental groups;
    • Commercial and industrial users;
    • Residents and ratepayers' associations;
    • Capital Region Health Board;
    • The scientific community;
    • Other bodies the regional district board considers appropriate.

On December 17, 1997 the Capital Regional District Board adopted Bylaw No. 2541, "A Bylaw for the Establishment and Operation of a Regional Water Supply, Protection and Conservation Advisory Committee."

Meetings are held at 9:00am in the Goldstream Room, CRD Water Services, 479 Island Highway, Victoria, BC. A place is provided on the agenda for members of the public to make presentations (maximum 5 minutes) or to ask questions regarding committee business.
