Film Plastic Recycling Pilot
The CRD is conducting a pilot project for the diversion of clean film plastic for recycling.
The collection site for this material is in the Hartland recycling area, which can be accessed through the general public scale. The cost to enter the facility is $6 per vehicle.
Items Accepted
Plastic bags (remove handles, receipts)
- Shopping and grocery bags
- Clean food storage bags
- Dry cleaning and newspaper bags
- CRD blue bags
Plastic wrap (remove stickers, labels)
- Shrink and bubble wrap
- Over wrap (stretchable)
- Drink yokes (six pack rings)
Items Not Accepted
- Soiled items (food, dirt, paint)
- Tarpaulins, dirty construction poly
- Cellophane
- Cereal/chip/cracker bags
- Paper or foil lined bags
- Biodegradable, degradable or compostable plastics
Helpful Hints
- Cellophane is identifiable by its crinkly and non-stretch characteristics
- Labels and stickers should be cut out of film, allowing the rest of the material to be recycled
