Hartland Bin Area
The Hartland bin area is a residential drop-off location for:
- Garbage
- Drywall
- Mattresses
- Yard & garden Material
- Wood waste
To access the drop-off bin area at Hartland, follow the signs to the general public scale and check in with the attendant. You can then proceed to the right, where you will find bins for the items listed.
Once you've finished unloading your items, you will need to drive over the scale again and pay for the weight you have unloaded.
Garbage
- $107/tonne plus $10 charge

Drywall (Gypsum Board) for Recycling
Drywall was banned from landfilling at Hartland in 1991. Small loads (maximum 100 kgs) are accepted for recycling for a fee:

Yard and Garden Material for Recycling
Yard and garden material was banned from landfilling at Hartland in 2006. Hartland chips and recycles yard and garden waste after collecting it at the bin area. Yard and garden waste is accepted for a fee:
- $57/tonne
- grass clippings
- leaves
- other organic yard waste
- tree branches and brush less than 75mm (3 inches) in diameter
- $107/tonne
- wood stumps and large branches greater than 75mm (3 inches) in diameter
- Material must be physically separated and clearly distinguishable from garbage and recyclables.
- Soil is not accepted.
- Food waste is not accepted.

Wood Waste for Recycling
This is a voluntary initiative, wood waste is not banned from Hartland landfill. Diverted wood collected in the bin area is chipped and put to secondary use and is subject to the tipping fee ($107 tonne).

- Plywood, particle board & fibre board
- Pallets/skids
- Crating
- Wood fencing
- Wood shingles
- Wooden doors
- Demolition wood waste
- Painted wood
- Wooden furniture
Wood with small metal attachments such as door hinges, door knobs, dead bolts, nails and spikes up to 8" in length are accepted.
Items Not Accepted new
- Wood contaminated with drywall
- Wood contaminated with asbestos
- Wood painted with lead-based paint
- Creosote wood products
- Pressure treated wood (typically green)
- Window frames (pre 1978)
- Laminate flooring
- Asphalt shingles
Wood with large metal attachments such as drift pins and angle iron cannot be accepted.
