On June 23, the CRD Board approved Amendment 8 to the Core Area Liquid Waste Management Plan. The plan was then submitted to the BC Minister of Environment for approval.
Contained in the plan are some significant changes from the previous system configuration for wastewater treatment in the region's Core Area. The centralized facility will be located at McLoughlin Point in Esquimalt, at the site of a former oil tank farm.
The CRD is engaging with the community of Esquimalt so that residents may give feedback and suggestions on mitigation and community benefits to lessen the impact of hosting a wastewater treatment facility. We are open to suggestions on ways in which a treatment plant might become an opportunity to provide greater community benefit to local residents.
