Salt Spring Tennis Association
In 1979 the Salt Spring Tennis Association (SSTA) was established to promote tennis on Salt Spring Island and provide opportunities for tennis players to meet for healthy competition and social events.
The Association is a member of Tennis BC and operates a junior program during the summer.
Tennis is played year round on Salt Spring Island – weather permitting - on courts supplied by the Salt Spring Island Parks and Recreation Commission.
By agreement, the SSTA uses the courts at Portlock Park for league play, an inter-club program with off-island tennis clubs, drop-in sessions and tournaments.
A game anyone?
Each year from the beginning of May until the wet fall weather sets in, the tennis courts at Portlock Park are reserved for drop-in tennis on various days. Anyone is welcome to play. See the back of the brochure for location of courts and drop-in times.
Gulf Islands Open Tournament
Each year in August the SSTA hosts this tournament using the courts at Portlock Park. This event is open to the public and entry forms & information are available in the notice board between courts 2 & 3.
Membership
Joining the SSTA is simple - complete the following information on a separate sheet and mail it to the address below with the annual fee of $20.00. The membership year runs from October to the end of the following September. Any new member signing up in July, August, or September will be granted membership to the end of the following membership year.
Membership is open to everyone – on or off island. Membership allows tennis players to take part in club tournaments and leagues, as well as to attend social events during the year. Members also receive the club newsletter – The Racket – and a list of telephone numbers of all members.
