Every Saturday from April to October, rain or shine, approximately 160 vendors display their handmade or hand-grown products for sale in Centennial Park in Ganges, Salt Spring Island.
Vendors arrive early in the morning to set up their stalls, hoping the weather will cooperate. Shortly thereafter, buyers begin to arrive. Crowds descend on the market early and Centennial Park remains a focal point of activity for the rest of the day. With a mixture of exotic textures and aromas, an explosion of colour and a wide variety of food, crafts, jewelry, produce and ceramics on display, visitors from far and wide are devoted to this intoxicating and vibrant market.
The Salt Spring Island Market has been referred to as a 'small community.' As this community has continued to grow, a result of its ever increasing popularity, guidelines were created to help maintain the appeal of this small jewel of the Island.
