Outdoor Tennis Courts
A geotechical engineering firm has been engaged in order to find a long term solution for the cracking in the surfaces of the Portlock and Fulford outdoor tennis courts. A preliminary evaluation was conducted and recommendations were made for further investigation which includes drilling test holes (in non playing areas). These tests will be conducted in mid to late November. In the meantime, the Fulford Court has been closed until further notice.
Portlock Park
Portlock Park has four outdoor courts. Recreational tennis is free to the public. When the courts are full, public rules state:
- Singles play for 30 minutes from the time they started play (not when a new party arrives)
- Doubles play for 45 minutes from the time they started play
- New parties must hang their racquets on the hooks to show they are waiting for a court, and to be placed in order. The hooks are located between courts 2 and 3.
Fulford Public Court
The public outdoor court, located behind the Fulford Fire Hall, is closed until further notice due to severe cracking.
Reservation of Outdoor Tennis Courts
Court reservations are a convenience offered to instructors, enabling a one hour lesson to take place without interruption. This also gives the instructor the ability to schedule lessons days and even weeks ahead with the knowledge that the court will be available when they arrive.
The court reservation fee is $6.00 per hour.
