Parks & Recreation
Community Parks

Local Parks and Recreation Commissions create and maintain community parks and trails on the Southern Gulf Islands on an ongoing basis. The commissions also improve and maintain public beach access and create recreation opportunities according to the needs and wishes of the community.
Pender & Galiano

Mayne & Saturna

Mayne and Saturna each have an active Parks & Recreation Commission. These commissions acquire and manage neighbourhood parks and trails and provide recreation opportunities according to the needs and wishes of the community. The Commissions improve and maintain public shore access for the enjoyment of all, and as evacuation routes in case of an emergency. These commissions also pursue opportunities to expand island-wide trail networks by negotiating easements with developers and property owners.
For information on these parks and trails, contact your local parks commission.
Small Craft Harbours

Each wharf managed by the CRD's Southern Gulf Islands Harbours Commission is nestled in a different bay in the Southern Gulf Islands. The entire area is often referred to as a boater's paradise. Endless opportunities for exploration and stunning marine ecosystems provide the setting for memorable recreation adventures.
Operation of many of the public wharves in the Southern Gulf Islands became the responsibility of the Southern Gulf Islands Harbours Commission in 1998. Wharfingers at each dock are collect moorage fees, maintain the docks and provide information to recreational boaters in the area. Public wharves are an inexpensive alternative to private marinas in the Gulf Islands and a great way to meet local boaters.
Help steward our community treasures
Community parks and trails are yours to enjoy, and a legacy for future generations. While visiting, please respect the private property next to the parks, trails, viewpoints, and ocean accesses and leave no trace of your visit or the visit of your dog. Leave the treasures that you find, including wildflowers, for others to enjoy.
