Harbour Authorities
The Southern Gulf Islands Harbours is a member of The Harbour Authority Association of BC. Established in 1997, this association is made up of approximately forty different government harbours along the BC coast.
Harbour Authorities are local organizations who operate and manage harbours in accordance with local needs. Typically they are non-profit, locally controlled organizations whose members have strong ties to the community and the local fishing industry.
Harbour Authorities are an efficient way of offering services, strengthening public investment and providing opportunities for communities to participate fully in the planning, operation and maintenance of harbour facilities. They also create a unique opportunity for Harbour Authority managers, directors and associate harbours and businesses in the marine industry to exchange information through ongoing networking, information sharing, workshops, and annual conferences.
