Montague Harbour is located on the lower, south side of Galiano Island and is one of the most protected harbours in the Gulf Islands. The harbour is naturally sheltered from predominant southerly winds in the winter by the high hills of Galiano to the south-east and Parker Island, which forms part of the entrance. The high mountain ridge running the length of Galiano provides protection from the summer northerly winds.

Public Moorage in Montague Harbour

montagueharbour-hhMontague Harbour dock consists of three floats, and is one of the most heavily used of all ports in the Southern Gulf Islands. The most significant users of this port are the residents of nearby Parker and Wise Islands, small islands comprised of mostly seasonal residents. This dock also provides access for essential service providers such as BC Hydro, RCMP, BC Ambulance, as well as several float plane companies. There is a reserved area for these emergency and commercial vessels marked in yellow.

This CRD dock is very small compared to the adjacent Montague Harbour Marina, a private facility providing moorage, a fuel dock and other amenities. Just to the north-west is the large and well developed Montague Harbour Provincial Marine Park, which offers mooring buoys and a dock. This park and other Southern Gulf Island marine parks are operated by K2 Parks Services.

Nearby Services

Montague Harbour provides adequate room for those wishing to anchor, but does tend to get congested in the summer months. Nearby facilities include a seasonal restaurant and store at the marina next door.

The notice board at the head of the gangway provides information, payment envelopes, and a lock-box. Additionally, find rate information on this site.
