Services Provided by the CRD

The CRD works in partnership with local committees and commissions to deliver many services on Salt Spring Island. These services include:
- Drinking Water
- Sewer
- Parks and Recreation
- Emergency Preparedness Program
- Bylaw Enforcement, Animal and Noise Control
- Funding for Recycling, Solid Waste Advisory
- Public Transit, Cycling and Pedestrian Infrastructure
- Mary Hawkins Library
- Funding for ArtSpring, the Local Community Arts Council
- Grants-in-Aid to Community Groups
- CRD Building Inspection Services
- Community Parks & Trails
- Fernwood Dock Management
Other Service Providers
Islands Trust
The Islands Trust administers the area's Official Community Plan and regulates all land use through a powerful Local Trust Area Committee. As a result, the CRD does not provide the land use planning that would normally be required of it by the Local Government Act.
Improvement Districts
These organizations which provide fire protection and waterworks alongside the CRD on Salt Spring and throughout the Southern Gulf Islands. These organizations were established by the Province of BC and empowered to carry out the necessary administration and operation.
