Salt Spring Island is an unincorporated rural Electoral District under the jurisdiction of the Capital Regional District (CRD). The CRD provides many of the local government functions and services normally found in a Municipality or Town, but most administrative functions are handled from offices in Victoria.

The guide is aimed at all current and prospective Salt Spring landowners preparing to build a new house, cottage or accessory building, or planning to remodel or add to an existing dwelling, or to build or reroute a driveway.
)St. Mary Lake Water Treatment Facility Construction Begins
Construction for a new water treatment facility, which will service the Highland and Fernwood Water Service Areas, has begun on the north end of St. Mary Lake. The facility will see the combining of the two systems into one service area, and the facility will replace the existing treatment building.
Minister Murray Coell and EA Director Garth Hendren attended the groundbreaking celebration.
