Report on the Environment:

Monitoring Trends in the Capital Regional District

Summary

Background

The goal of the Report on the Environment is to inform the public and decision-makers about environmental conditions in the Capital Regional District (CRD) and how conditions have changed over the past decade. Since 1994, the CRD's Roundtable on the Environment has worked with technical experts, the public, and the CRD Board to identify the highest environmental priorities in the region, and a suite of indicators to track the conditions and trends of each priority.

In June 1997, the CRD presented the first 24 indicators in the Phase 1 Report on the Environment. This Phase 2 Report reviews the next 13 indicators. The final four indicators will be published in a future report. Once the initial set of indicators is complete, the Roundtable intends to produce update reports every two years.

Using the report

The Report on the Environment is intended for use by elected representatives, business people, educators, public groups, and citizens throughout the region. This report contains monitoring information and discusses implications of our activities for various aspects of the natural environment. By providing better information on conditions and trends in the CRD, the Roundtable hopes that well-informed decisions can be made by various levels of government and the public. Suggestions for ways of improving the environment of the CRD may be sent to:
