2011 Origin-Destination
Household Travel Survey
Regional Transportation - Next Steps
The data collection stage of the 2011 Origin Destination Household Travel Survey has now been completed. Of the 20,000 households contacted, the target of 6,000 completions has been attained. In the New Year, R.A. Malatest & Associates will verify the information collected over the last 10 weeks. Preliminary results will be available by Spring 2012, with updates provided as this work progresses.
The detailed data on daily trip patterns of area residents gathered in this survey will help the Capital Regional District, municipalities and provincial agencies make sound decisions about the routes and services communities really need for an improved and sustainable transportation future for the region.
Between October 5 and December 7, professional interviewers from Malatest spoke to randomly selected households throughout the CRD* and the southern Cowichan Valley (including Duncan). They were asked where all household members travelled in the course of the previous day, why and when they went, and how they got there. Some respondents were invited to complete the survey online.
Thank you to all who took the time to participate. Transportation planners will use the information provided for years to come. Prize draws of households who completed the survey will be held soon and winners notified.
Confidentiality and long-term security of the data collected will continue to be guaranteed.
