Housing Affordability Partnership

HAP is public, private, and non-profit groups working together to address housing affordability and choice in the Capital Region. HAP seeks to:

  • Address the housing concerns of BC's Capital Region
  • Ensure new housing gets to market affordably
  • Mobilize collaboration across community interest
  • Work region-wide to highlight awareness of emerging housing issues and opportunities.

Housing Affordability Housing Affordability Strategy Housing Affordability Partnership Quality of Life Challenge

HAP coordinates and encourages partnerships within the community, to develop concrete plans to deliver substantial additional affordable housing through a variety of initiatives. HAP is solution-based.

HAP is linked to the Regional Housing Affordability Strategy, in that the two projects (and the Quality of Life CHALLENGE, below) are working together to increase awareness of affordability issues in the Region, and to develop and implement solutions to this problem. RHAS will be working closely with HAP to develop its capacity, so that in time, when the Strategy is complete, HAP will be able to continue its work to make housing that is affordable available to regional residents.

Quality of Life CHALLENGE

In 1999, the Community Social Planning Council of Greater Victoria published Quality of Life in BC's Capital Region, a compendium and analysis of indicators on the situation in the Capital Region. The next step in this process of monitoring and reporting on the community is rapidly gaining momentum. The Quality of Life CHALLENGE is a community initiative working to enable everyone to share our excellent quality of life. Three priorities have been selected for concerted action: housing affordability (with emphasis on quality), employment opportunities, and community connections.
