Panorama’s Active Exercise Rehabilitation program uses a new approach to overcoming the problems of injury recovery. Our modern, well equipped facility and experienced team of Kinesiologists, exercise rehabilitation specialists, Registered Massage Therapists, and Waterworks certified instructors provide comprehensive assessment and functional rehabilitation. We believe all people have the ability to recover function as rapidly as a high level athlete if they are given the same clear guidance and individual treatment. All exercise rehabilitation programs are based on the well-proven techniques of sport medicine.

David White, Registered Kinesiologist, Certified Athletic Therapist

David White specializes in exercise rehabilitation and specializedDavid White fitness with over 24 years of experience. David works in one-on-one and group rehabilitation settings, training people who have been injured at work, in car accidents and during sport activities. His clients and group exercise participants include a wide variety of individuals from healthy and special populations. David also has experience with individuals with Parkinson’s, MS, and other neurological problems including stroke recovery.
His passion is to assist those with injuries gain control and function of their lives through evidence-based biomechanical treatment and exercise prescription both in the dry land and aquatic environments.

Aquatic Rehabilitation Programs

Water based exercise therapy programs are beneficial in reducing pain and discomfort, promoting earlier recovery, decompression of spine and lower extremities, increasing range of motion and increasing muscular strength and endurance. Panorama’s new state of the art aquatic facility allows for a large variety of creative exercises to be performed.
Individual appointments are available to enable you to begin a gently graduated exercise program with confidence. When it is safe and you are confident enough with the first stage of the program, you can enter into a graduated series of small group classes in the pool designed specifically for second and third stage injury recovery.

Dry Land Programs

Customized Rehabilitation Programs

Following initial assessment you will enter into a comprehensive graduated exercise program guided by our Kinesiologist. The exercises are specifically designed for your individual needs. The program will be targeted at improving strength, endurance, flexibility and functional activity requirements. The individualized nature of these programs require them to be performed on a per session basis.

Self Directed Programs

During the later stages of recovery, requirements for one-on-one supervision should decrease. Our Kinesiologist will prescribe an exercise program for you to perform on your own with check in and program modifications at 6 week intervals.

Home Based Programs

If you prefer or require that your exercise program be performed at home, our Kinesiologist can prescribe and monitor a program that you can do in your own home.

Massage Therapy

massageMassage therapy provides endless benefits for injury recovery, restructuring scar tissue, enhancing regeneration and recovery following training, loosening up prior to competition and to loosen tight muscles from everyday stress.

Massage rates (subject to HST):

  • $40/30 minutes
  • $60/45 minutes
  • $80/1 hour

Jennifer Pendray, B.Sc., RMT, SMT(C)

Jennifer has been practising as a Registered Massage Therapist for the past 13 years. She is very excited to be introducing Massage Therapy at Panorama Recreation. She was on the Canadian Medical and Health Services Team at both the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2007 Pan-Am Games. She is currently the lead Massage Therapist for the National Diving team and has worked with the team at various international events including the 2008/2010 World Cups, 2009 World Aquatic Championships and multiple World Series and Grand Prix’s over the past 4 years.

Her treatment style uses a mix of traditional Swedish massage therapy, Sports Massage, Myofascial Release techniques and Cranial-Sacral techniques.

James Johnston, RMT

James is a recent graduate of WCCMT Victoria and is excited to be starting a practice at the Panorama Recreation Centre. After spending many years as an industrial first aid attendant, he knew that he wanted to take injury treatment to a new level. Being a volunteer firefighter since 2002 in Campbell River and Metchosin James is looking forward to bringing the same compassion for helping people and community into practice as a massage therapist.
James treatments focus on myofascial release; deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy as well as therapeutic exercise. James enjoys working with all clients and has enjoyed volunteering as the massage therapist for the Victoria Grizzlies hockey club for the past two seasons. Treatments can help with reducing stress, improving pain, promoting injury repair and enhancing circulation.
James is excited to meet the Panorama Recreation Centre clients and help them achieve their health and wellness goals

GPX Uppertone Exercise Machine

uppertone

The Uppertone machine, donated by Opportunities for the Disabled Foundation, allows patrons in wheelchairs (including quadriplegics) to complete a full upper-body resistance workout. The Uppertone facilitates improved conditioning and maintenance of functional independence. It can also and help improve transfers and wheelchair propulsion, reduce joint pain and muscle spasticity, and increase lung capacity. The Uppertone allows access for 16 upper body resistance exercises, and features adjustable station height and width.
