Upgrades to the Wilderness Mountain Water System are underway with an anticipated completion in early summer 2012.
The project provides improvements to the water treatment process including cartridge filtration and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection in the existing building adjacent to Wilfred Reservoir. Addition of ammonia (chloramination) will occur in a new building adjacent to the existing one.
The project was tendered in December 2011 and awarded to Ridgeline Mechanical Ltd of Courtenay BC in the amount of $418,588.59+HST.
Ridgeline has poured the concrete foundation in preparation for arrival of the new treatment building (pre-fabricated offsite) with plumbing and mechanical components already installed inside. Some of the mechanical work in the existing building has been completed. However, there remains some mechanical and electrical work prior to start of commissioning in late May-June.
In addition the CRD is replacing components of the upper booster pump station, including new pumps, pressure tanks and a solenoid valve to assist during power outages.
