Juan de Fuca Electoral Area Community Parks Strategic Plan
What's New
In early 2010, the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area Parks and Recreation Commission had completed a draft 10 year Community Parks Strategic Plan and a Site Management Plan for William Simmons Memorial Park.
The Commission proceeded with a consultation process in March, which included an open house at the District of Sooke council chamber on March 31.
Overall, the Commission received positive support and several comments and recommendations on these plans. A "Public Consultation Comments and Response" report was prepared by the Commission, and following amendments to the Strategic Plan and Site Management Plan, the final plans, as amended, were adopted at the April 27, 2010 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting.
The Commission would like to thank all the community members who participated in the consultations and provided valuable comments and support.

William Simmons Memorial Park - Under Development
Work started in early May to implement the approved Site Management Plan for this community park (Work Schedule). Valhalla Trails Ltd. is the contractor responsible for the site development work. It is the objective of the Commission to have this park’s official opening sometime in late summer or early fall.
Help Steward Our Community Treasures
Community parks and trails are yours to enjoy, and a legacy for future generations. While visiting, please respect the private property next to the parks, trails, viewpoints, and ocean accesses and leave no trace of your visit or the visit of your dog. Leave the treasures that you find, including wildflowers, for others to enjoy.
Stewardship Agreements
If you wish to volunteer your time and skills towards the management and upkeep of your community parks, contact commission staff to find out about the stewardship program.
