Advisory Planning Commissions

These commissions, one of which represents each community in the Juan de Fuca area, make recommendations to the CRD on community and neighbourhood development plans, zoning applications and development permits. At this time the Malahat Advisory Planning Commission is not active. The commissions meet on an as required basis.

Land Use Planning Committee

With an elected representative from each community in the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area, the Land Use Planning Committee is a CRD Committee. The Committee members make recommendations on land use issues such as development permits, zoning, setbacks, and subdivision applications. Elected representatives are meant to protect the best interests of each community by enacting the terms of the pertaining Official Community Plan. The CRD Director Chairs the committee.

Minutes & Meetings

The committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm at the District of Sooke Council Chambers.

Agricultural Advisory Planning Commission

The Agricultural Advisory Planning Commission was established to consider proposed development applications and policies that affect agricultural lands in the the Electoral Area.

Minutes & Meetings

The Commission meets as required to consider items referred from the Juan de Fuca Land Use Committee.

Boards of Variance

These committees have the power to grant minor variances in situations where compliance with a Zoning Bylaw respecting siting, dimension or size of a building or structure would cause a person undue hardship. A variance may not vary the density or use of land, and if granted, has an expiry date.
