9-1-1 Administration
The CRD provides administrative oversight to 9-1-1 in the region and there are two main levels to a 9-1-1 program: call answer and call dispatch.
Call Answer
A Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) answers the 9-1-1 calls, gathers information from the caller, and transfers the call to the appropriate agency for dispatch.
Currently in the CRD, there are three PSAPs:
- Victoria Police
- Saanich Police
- The Westshore RCMP based in Langford
All three PSAP's take 9-1-1 calls for the areas they service. When you dial 9-1-1, your call will go to one of these locations where professionally trained staff will assist you.
Response Dispatch
The dispatchers are agency specific and are the direct link between the caller and the responders.
Dispatch is handled on an agency basis. Fire dispatch, police dispatch and ambulance dispatch are handled in separate locations, with professional staff trained in the specific needs of their response agencies. Calls from the 9-1-1 Call Answer locations (PSAPs) are routed to these agency specific dispatch locations based on the nature of the incident.
