2011 EcoStar Awards Criteria & Eligibility

Nominations for the 2011 CRD EcoStar Awards are now closed.

Application submissions were accepted from
Tuesday, March 1 - Thursday, April 7, 2011.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The nominated individual, project, initiative or company must operate/reside within the CRD
  • All projects are eligible for an award, regardless of size
  • All projects must have been in progress during 2010-2011
  • Applicants must not previously have won an award in the category under which they are applying
  • Awards in all categories may not be given out each year
  • Elected officials, CRD boards, commissions and special purpose bodies are not eligible
  • Previous finalists may reapply but must be able to demonstrate progress since their last application

Nomination Process

Individuals, groups, organizations and companies can nominate themselves or be nominated by another party.

The deadline for nominations and supporting materials is Thursday, April 7, 2011 at midnight.

2011 Judging Process

Nominations will be ranked by an independent panel of judges, comprised of CRD professionals in each award category. Two finalists will be selected in each of the seven categories; one winner will receive an EcoStar Award.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on June 1, 2011.

Evaluating Criteria

All nominations will be judged on the following criteria:

Effectiveness (50% of final score)

  • What were the goals for the project/initiative?
  • How has the project succeeded?
  • How has the nominee measured their success?

Innovation, Creativity & Originality (20% of final score)

  • How was the environmental practice visionary?
  • How were innovative methods, strategies or ideas applied?
  • How did the nominee minimize use of resources and/or bring significant improvements in environmental performance over comparable alternatives?

Promotion & Impact of Environmental Stewardship (15% of final score)

  • How has the project motivated others to contribute to a greener region?
  • What evidence is there of substantive, measurable impact and/or benefits to the region as a result of the nominee's contributions?

Leadership (15% of final score)

  • How has the project demonstrated vision, foresight and persistence?
  • How is the nominee's leadership and commitment supported and recognized by all levels of the group/organization and within the community?
