Cecelia Creek used to be one of the most polluted creeks entering the sheltered waterway from Victoria Harbour to Portage Inlet Gorge Waterway. It flows for most of its course in cement storm drains, moving above ground through Cecelia Ravine Park, the only significant green space in the Burnside Gorge community, and finally entering the Gorge Waterway. The Cecelia Creek Restoration Project proves to be a model for urban watershed management and stream restoration in the Capital Regional District. It is an exceptional example of how private, public and non-profit sectors can cooperate for the good of the environment and the community. Through this cooperation the creek has been cleaned up and the surrounding Ravine is being transformed into an ecological and recreational showcase in the heart of an industrial neighborhood.
