Smoke Alarm and Fixture Efficiency Amendments new
Effective May 1, 2010 the British Columbia Fire Code Regulation is amended. The amendments affect smoke alarms in the home.

Effective October 4, 2010 the Building Code Regulation is amended. The changes affect the flush cycle of toilets and urinals.
Building Code - Provincial Regulation
Copies of the current British Columbia Building Code (BCBC) and British Columbia Fire Code (BCFC) are available in print, cd rom and on-line subscriptions through the Queens Printer, Victoria, BC. Public libraries may also have reference copies available or you can contact the Capital Regional District building inspection office in your area.
Amendment related to Seismic Slope Stability and Technical Guidance
Effective February 1, 2010 the BC Building Code is amended. With the changes:
- "the consideration of potential for slope instability and its consequences at a building site becomes an explicit requirement in designs of structures and their foundations, and
- "the seismic hazard probability level to be used in the consideration, particularly in assessment of seismic slope stability, will be referenced in Subsection 1.1.3 of Division B of the BC Building Code, namely a 2%-in-50 year probability of exceedance."
Previous Code Changes
The most recent BCBC and BCFC are based on the 2005 National Building and Fire Code of Canada and came into effect on December 15, 2006.
These code requirements apply to all buildings constructed on or after December 15, 2006.
