System Maintenance - McLoughlin Point Wastewater Treatment Plant

Jan 08, 2025

Planned maintenance between March and April will result in a sewage bypass of secondary treatment.

The Capital Regional District (CRD) is obtaining regulatory permission for a 21-day sewage bypass of secondary treatment while completing system maintenance on the McLoughlin Point Wastewater Treatment Plant. This activity will result in effluent which has undergone primary treatment to exit the 2 km long outfall into the Salish Sea (Straight of Juan de Fuca). The work will take up to 21 continuous days between March and April,  2025.

A sewage bypass is a temporary diversion of wastewater or sewage flow to allow for maintenance or upgrades. The CRD will notify the public through our website while the bypass is occurring.
